Progressive-Area (France)
Progressive-Area (France)
Translation from the original French:
I needed to listen a lot to this disc before writing an opinion of it. I admit that initially, I had been able to listen but nothing stuck with me. But after a moment the disc was well stuck in my mind. Finally, the music proposes various facets as for the introduction of the album with “Apophenia”. The piece opens on a work with multiple voices the like IT BITES, but with a more atonal musicality, in the spirit of R.I.O. which spoke to us well in the Sixties. A tended music and forces, then one starts to rub the hands…
The continuation is between jazz, jazz rock and 70’s rock with beautiful sounds of Hammond organ (“It Works”). Then later the matter becomes lighter with a progressive rock rather directed towards a basic rock decorated with keyboards (“Narrow-Caster”) until music purely AOR (“Live With This Forever”), but always keeping progressive intentions. A melody piece with wish. Then the music is pure and hard AOR with “Cautionary Tale”, before being seized again towards a music with the harder accents, very rock-almost Metal (“It Proverbial Banana Peel”). You have just understood it, not, the group wants to surprise us by imposing a music which does not have stylistic borders. And yes, one continues in this musical voyage where no taboo is disallowed and on the contrary one is in love with the beautiful melodies, of beautiful vocal work where a certain Californian free spirit comes out on this progressive rock (“Young Once”) before escaping in beautiful, well thought out instrumental passages. After a moment one should not succumb either too much be caught the head, and finally it is enough for beautiful syrupy ballads into the soft melodies (“Scenery”) that comfort you and your well deserved rest. Coming back to more AOR (“Free For All”) certainly very melodic but which can also take a more symphonic character (“The Last Gasp”). Oops, the disc is already finished… And here, how can one spend one moment in company of 3RDEGREE. This is in no way the disc of the century, on the other hand the music can surprise you so much the object and tied up well and passes like a letter to the post office without to really taking the head you.
